I am looking for an *inexpensive* tracking/financial software for the PC repair shop. What do you guys use? Do you even need this type of software if you only do a few jobs per week?

Should I invest in something like this once I get rolling good or use it right from the start? I don't really know much about this type of software at all. I watched some vids & a demo of PC tracker.

PC tracker looks very nice, but is it overkill? I can't imagine myself using all those features. And, does a program like PC tracker easily transfer the data to something that accountants can use for tax preparing?

Comments/suggestions welcome!

I have been using SAGE instant accounts, this would also be over kill for you, the only reason i use it is because of i am selling on ebay.

PC Repair tracker it think exports data so your accountant can easily read it.

I am like you just doing a few repairs a week, but i wish i know about PC Repair Tracker before i bought SAGE. Even though i have bought SAGE i am thinking of getting PC Repair Tracker, as it offers so many features that other packages don't offer.

If you plan on staying in business, i would suggest you think long and hard about which software package you purchase, it will save you so much time & money in the long run getting the right software now.

Thanks for the info.; I will check out Sage - nice to know about other options out there. I think I remember some talk about an open source freeware pgm. too. Anyone know about it?

Even if you checked out PC Repair Tracker and it seems like overkill but you overall liked it then i'd get it. We switched to it over a year ago and could not be more pleased. Yes, some functions like the SMS we don't use but it does not matter if down the road you decide to use the features then they are there for you.

Plus, Luke is always adding new things but it does not mean you have to use them. Not sure about the accountant we deal with Quickbooks and don't worry about the tracker being part of that.

I found a couple of free ones in case anyone is interested.

GNUCash & PostBooks. I will dnload & start using to see how I like them. On of my main concerns is the compatibility/usability where the accountant is concerned.

I am leaning towards doing the books/taxes myself, but in the event that it proves to be too much for me I don't want to be using some software that the account doesn't or can't use the data from.

pc repair tracker would be ideal for tracking all repairs in your shop. After that i would use sage or quickbooks to track all accounts.

I would like to revisit this topic again, esp. since we are dealing with "tax time" at present. I have been using the "pen & paper" method, but I really need to get on board with a good software solution.

I have been trying out GnuCash with a little success. It doesn't seem that I can edit it well enough to suit the specific needs of pc repair. I have heard of MYIT CRM but I would rather have software installed on my pc instead of server installed software.

If the connection is down and I can't access the software...not good.

Any more recommendations at this time? Free preferable, but I would pay for decent software that would be tailored to the pc repair business.

Thanks! :)

I know you can install this one on a server in your building/business http://www.pcrepairtracker.com/ (or on a internet server)

I have heard good things about it but I will admit two things, I am not busy enough to use any of these tools and most other web apps like this you can install on either on your LAN or on the inter-tubes
